Senior Business Analyst, Health - Job Role & Responsibilities

There are multiple positions at this job level available within Commercial Markets Analytics. We aim to match your interests and skills to an area that will provide personal satisfaction and engagement.

As a Senior Analyst you will lead a diverse range of analytical projects within Commercial Markets Analytics. Our Analytics department supports many key functional areas across the organization including Actuarial, Care Management, HEDIS, Network Management, Value-based Contracting, Provider Performance, Risk Adjustment, the Federal Employee Program and more, requiring the development of analytical approaches, conclusions, and effective communication to various targeted audiences. The position is relied upon to apply business knowledge to Analytics projects and provide value-added insights to directly impact business outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of related analytical experience and strong technical skills, great written and verbal communication, and a natural curiosity to understand factors that contribute to healthcare costs and favorable member outcomes.

The Key Responsibilities:

  • Manipulate data using large datasets and multiple data sources
  • Act as primary Analyst for assigned projects and proactively identify topics for analysis
  • Write SAS, SQL, R, or other related programs and modify existing programs for data extraction
  • Monitor and evaluate patterns, costs and trends
  • Identify drivers of performance as it pertains to Care, Quality, Access, and Affordability within defined member populations
  • Analyze processes and programs in achieving stated goals. Provide analyses and recommendations if corrections are needed. Investigate and discover areas of opportunity
  • Develop Excel-based models and spreadsheets containing advanced functions that are used to evaluate historical trends and forecasts and to identify best practices
  • Develop insightful and actionable summaries and recommend actions
  • Assist in training other team members on basic technical skills
  • Work in team environment emphasizing collaboration and relationship building
Senior Business Analyst, Health - Job requirements

What Is REQUIRED:

  • 4+ years related work experience with a focus in the health or medical industry or equivalent combination of transferable experience and education
  • Bachelor’s degree or additional related equivalent work experience
  • Experience with analytics and inferential statistics
  • Intermediate level experience writing SQL /SAS/R or related code
  • Advanced Excel skills (ability to create and build pivot tables, formulas, macro automations, etc.)

What Is PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Finance, Statistics, Data Science, Health Economics or similar program
  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • General knowledge and experience in the healthcare industry
  • Familiarity with data warehouse concepts and practices
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

General Physical Demands:

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Jobs are sedentary if traversing activities are required only occasionally.
