Senior Business Analyst - Job Role & Responsibilities

Universal Products & Experiences is a world-class business operating across the globe, translating Universal stories and characters from the screen and into the daily lives of fans. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Universal Products & Experiences Technology team as a Senior Business Analyst, in support of this dynamic and growing business.

We in UPE Tech are influencers driving change within NBC Universal – not only through our deep alignment with the Brand Development & Retail teams, but also though our effective collaboration across Operations and Technology groups at NBCU. As a Senior Business Analyst within UPE Tech, you will be instrumental in driving the Business’ objectives for growth and transformation. With a focus on engagement with your colleagues in the Business, you will take responsibility for the investigative work to determine business requirements and specify efficient business processes and solutions. You will also take responsibility for the day-to-day operations of our Contract & Finance Management and Budgeting & Forecasting platforms and upstream and downstream integrations with other parts of our technology ecosystem.

What You’ll Do In The Role

Business Analysis and Client Engagement

  • Develop deliverables, including but not limited to, workflows, wireframes and process models, detailed business requirements, use cases, business rules, release notes, change management documentation, etc.
  • Follow established demand management process to engage business partners on requirements gathering
  • Follow established governance process to prioritize requests
  • Conduct requirement review with business users including external application teams

Project Delivery

  • Partner with the project delivery team to assess technical feasibility and obtain estimates for the Product Backlog items
  • Manage blockers and impediments to the release plan
  • Identify and mitigate project risks
  • Develop and maintain project plans to track milestones and detailed tasks
  • Track open issues
  • Write and communicate project status
  • Issue weekly project status reports
  • Manage resource allocations across projects

Quality Assurance

  • Oversee planning, organization, coordination, and execution of quality assurance activities

  • Create test strategy, and produce test scripts for medium to complex enhancements

  • Execute testing for medium to complex enhancements
    Production Support

  • Perform analysis to resolve day-to-day production support issues

  • Generate monthly reports/metrics to identify trends in support themes

Senior Business Analyst - Job requirements

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years in business systems analysis with mastery of requirements gathering and process definition
  • A demonstrated track record of success in forging and developing excellent relationship with key business partners and stakeholders
  • Understanding of system architecture, integration, and software development processes along with experience managing application development in browser-based and mobile environments

Required Characteristics

  • Strong presentation skills, both written and verbal. High comfort-level with MS Office apps including Powerpoint is a must.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, work on assigned development tasks independently, leverage team members and resources as necessary, apply critical and creative thinking, challenging the status quo where necessary
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, manage aggressive timelines and professionally navigate high pressure situations
  • Ability to quickly learn a broad array of technologies and apply that knowledge to real-world problems
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with staff, executive team, external partners, etc.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with Financial Systems a strong plus
  • Experience in Retail, eCommerce, Consumer Products and Media/Entertainment a plus
  • Technical expertise in such areas as SQL, Data Modelling
  • Experience with User Interface and/or Report design
  • Experience with Process Improvement methodologies (e.g., 6 Sigma, Lean)
  • Experience with various formal methodologies for Agile software development
  • Business savvy, with the ability to interpret technology issues for consumption by non-technology business partners
  • Experience with vendor management & collaboration with software and service providers
