Senior Business Analyst - Job Role & Responsibilities

The Senior Business Analyst role is responsible for supporting a fast growing platform in Irvine Company’s technology landscape: Salesforce, Coupa, SAP Business Objects, and Tableau for reporting, analytics and visualization. Responsibilities include project management using agile or scrum framework, requirements gathering, working with users and business owners to understand business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs, system design, and translating requirements into solutions. For data visualization and exploration, responsibilities will include developing BI solutions in Tableau dashboard designs, and analyzing KPI calculations logic.

Job Duties

  • Work closely with users and IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions. This role will gather business requirements and work with development teams on a SAP Business Objects BI integrated with SAP BW and HANA environment. Provide data that is accurate, congruent and reliable, and ensure the information is easily available to users for direct consumption or integration with other systems.
  • Work with users to determine business requirements, priorities, define Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and develop BI and data warehouse strategy. This includes working with business and development teams to design,and document dashboards, alerts, and reports.
  • Accountable for providing leadership and independent initiatives in facilitating information gathering, structured documentation and presentation of findings to all levels of management. They conduct analyses of functional business processes and functional business requirements and participate in the development of business cases in support of process changes and/or IT projects.
  • Serve as a liaison between the business divisions and technical IT resources focused on business intelligence and reporting systems. Interview users and conduct functional business requirements gathering sessions; participate in research in the identification of solutions to meet business needs; analyze user requests for new capabilities, detail enhancements to existing systems, and troubleshoot new errors as found by the team and user community.
  • This role will coordinate internal system release testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to facilitate effective and organized issue resolution. This includes training of UAT team on the application and/or process change, and management of all phases of testing for the team’s supported applications.
  • Serve as application support analyst for the help desk ticket queues for business intelligence reporting questions. Quickly analyze, investigate, follow-up, and route all questions, queries, and service desk tickets as they arrive in the SAP BI applications queue. As an ongoing responsibility, this person must be able to systematically evaluate and update all service desk request records so they are accurate, up-to-date, and prioritized.
  • Produce process maps, system diagrams, logical data models, business requirements, gap analysis, report specifications and other documentation as required for project analysis, planning and design.
  • Design test plans, including definition of test cases and the creation of detailed solution test scripts. Work with other teams and vendors to explore methods for automation of testing.
  • Educate and train users to use data as an analytical tool, displaying the information in new forms and content for the purpose of analysis and data exploration.
  • Keep a high level of communication with management on daily activities and escalate issues to management in an efficient and constructive fashion.
Senior Business Analyst - Job requirements

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations

  • A Bachelor or Masters Degree in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics, Mathematics, etc.)
  • 8+ years of experience working in the Information Technology / Information Systems industry
  • 5+ years working with data analysis and enterprise class BI tools as a Business Analyst (Requirements, Design, Testing, and Documentation)
  • 5+ Years' experience with analytics tools such as Tableau, SAP BusinessObjects, Alteryx.
  • 4+ years of industry experience in predictive modeling and data science to promote and support advanced analytics analysis and solutions.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, including system and business analysis, problem analysis and resolution. Must be able to understand technical concepts of the system environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and a customer service attitude.
  • Must be extremely well organized and thorough. The ideal candidate sees every problem or issue as a potential opportunity; strive for continual process improvement and approach daily tasks with a positive attitude and deep desire to elevate the customer experience.
  • Strong understanding of a business process areas such as Property Management, Finance, Budgeting, Sales, CRM, etc.
  • Expertise in Google Apps – Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with development on SAP BusinessObjects BI Web Intelligence, Explorer, Dashboard Designs, and Tableau.
  • Special consideration given to candidates that have worked in the real estate industry (commercial, office, retail or multi-family property management or construction)
  • Experience with other business intelligence tools (Qlikview, Microsoft) and/or GIS systems (ESRI) is a plus.

Base Pay Range: $106,700.00 - $130,000.00

Actual placement within this range may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
