Business Analyst, Operations - Job Role & Responsibilities

The Scaled Operations team at Airbnb increases the effectiveness, utilization, quality and impact of the Homes and Experiences on Airbnb using people-powered operations. We also work closely with the Standards team to devise and test policies that will balance the needs of our guests and hosts.The Analytics team on Scaled Operations is responsible for enabling our leadership to make data-driven decisions. This can be via dashboards for regular reporting, quick questions on business drivers, or longer-term collaborations to drive and shape new business initiatives. We work across a broad set of problems with a board set of stakeholders, where we occasionally work with tight timelines and ambiguous requests. Proficiency in managing clients in fast-changing environments, and tenacity to find answers where they are not clear are hallmarks of the team.

The Difference You Will Make

As an Operations Business Analyst, you will partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver the data pipelines, dashboards and insights projects that they need. Airbnb has a diverse set of data tables, so you will need to be resourceful in navigating documents and engineers to find solutions. As an operations team we can have rapidly changing priorities, so being able to quickly pivot to new problems, and to reframe existing questions is important. We are focused on making an impact over theoretical models. Communicating findings clearly and accurately, and being proactive to push work further than the original ask will drive the value for our stakeholders.

A Typical Day

  • Collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders, from Supply Standards to Marketing teams, to deliver data-driven insights and recommendations on long-term projects
  • Build reporting and dashboards to allow continuous monitoring of initiative performance
  • Design and implement ETL data pipelines across multiple systems
  • Automate repetitive operational analytics asks such as candidate pipelines and the aggregation of agent output
  • Answer urgent questions from senior leadership about business drivers, opportunity sizing and the effect of possible decisions on our guests and hosts
  • Over time, develop knowledge of principles and methods within various specialty areas of our data, such as photography, our accessibility program and the experiences product
  • Craft communications to clearly share your insights, which could be presentations, documents, or Google Sheets and code
  • Manage your own roadmap by identifying new project opportunities and proposing prioritization between existing requests
Business Analyst, Operations - Job requirements

Your Expertise

  • 6+years of work experience with increasing responsibility in a technology or consulting environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; in a quantitative field preferred (Statistics, Science, Economics, Engineering); Masters a plus
  • Fluency in the core toolkit of Operational Data Analytics:
    • Critical: Advanced SQL, Excel modeling, metrics reporting and visualization
    • Preferred: R/Python and interest in, or experience with, data pipeline construction
  • Confidence, resilience, creativity and self-sufficiency in solving problems yourself - as we are a remote team, there may not always be someone available to immediately assist
  • Demonstrated desire to learn new techniques and a team-player attitude to help out across all of our work, wherever is most valuable
  • Ability to wrangle answers out of messy data and make good business judgment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Deep connection to Airbnb’s mission and passion for creating Connection and Belonging
  • Entrepreneurial drive and demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment
