Business Analyst - Job Role & Responsibilities

Role is primarily remote but in-office (Highlands Ranch location), up to one time every other week.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Typical responsibilities include working with the business to elicit, analyze and document requirements for projects that encompass business process and technology initiatives. Work collaboratively with business stakeholders, technical resources, management and outside vendors as a liaison who can understand the business problems and opportunities in the context of the technical environments, based on a solid understanding of enterprise information technology and a strong technical aptitude.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Manager - IT Product

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: N/A

Essential Functions

Level I:

  • Interface with business users and stakeholders to elicit requirements using various techniques such as interviews, document analysis, requirement workshops, surveys, site visits, business process reviews, use cases, scenarios, fit-gap analysis, tasks, and workflow analysis.
  • Decompose high-level business requirements into an appropriate level of detailed user, functional, and non-functional requirements.
  • Translate requests into concise written functional and technical documents in a way that clearly conveys end user requirements.
  • Work with business users, development and other technical resources to review the requirements, define scope and split the requirements into manageable deliverables in the format of features, user stories, and sprints.
  • Prepare and present findings and recommendations to project teams, business users and technical resources, up-to and including executive management.
  • Work with business and technical resources to prepare test plans/scripts, facilitate issue tracking and resolution, develop user documentation, draft training materials, and prepare communications to aid in delivery of a quality product, designed for user acceptance and adoption.
  • Pull and analyze data and present the data in a usable format to provide useful solutions-oriented information for key business decisions. While not a requirement, a working understanding of SQL and API development is a plus.
  • Conduct research on best practices and industry trends, with a view toward improving an understanding of applications and interdependencies between systems, business processes, and data.
  • Exhibit strong analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, facilitation and elicitation skills.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with business stakeholders, internal and external customers and vendors, utilizing strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary.

Level II: (Provides all functions noted above, plus the following)

  • Demonstrate that more complex tasks have been mastered and less direction from senior team members and management is needed.
  • Demonstrate product ownership within an Agile development methodology, understanding prioritization, product communication (from business to developers) and roadmap understanding/evangelism.
  • Provide input and make practical and workable recommendations towards the technical vision and solutions.
  • Make recommendations to technology strategy plans.
  • Identify roadblocks, issues or challenges that arise during the project, and works with the project team to remediate and resolve those issues and challenges.
  • Apply knowledge of the business and relevant technologies in a way that engages business partners in evaluating possible solutions.
  • Provide support to other IT Business Analysts.
Business Analyst - Job requirements

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires mobility sufficient to travel. Some bending, stooping and stretching. Occasionally lifting items weighing up to 30 lbs. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Extensive data input and required ability to sit for long periods of time. Regular and consistent attendance on the job is an essential function.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.

Education And Experience

Level II

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems Management, Computer Science, Technology Management, Business Administration, or related discipline is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience is required.
  • Prior experience within the real estate or hospitality industry is preferred, or equivalent combination of experience within industry and emerging technologies.
  • Experience working in both Agile and Waterfall environments is required.
  • Provides guidance and support to other team members.
  • Excellent experience with MS Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Fundamental understanding of SQL databases and API development.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license unless otherwise noted.
