Business Analyst - Job Role & Responsibilities

The Business Analyst’s role is to analyze, specify and validate the business needs of the organizations. In this role, the BA will plan, design, develop, and launch efficient business, financial, and operations systems in support of core organizational functions and business processes. This includes gathering and analyzing data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and systems requirements. The Business Analyst is also responsible for supporting the development process, and ensuring that project deliverables are met according to specifications. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of IT system investments.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with executive leadership, decision makers, business owners, technical owners, and end users to define business, financial, and operations requirements and systems goals, and identify and resolve systems issues
  • Collaborates with project managers and project sponsors to det ermine project scope and vision
  • Identifies project stakeholders and establish roles and responsibilities (process owners, change champions, etc.)
  • Conducts interviews and product analysis to gather user requirements via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, site visits, workflow storyboards, use case s, scenarios, and other methods
  • Develops and utilize s standard templates to accurately and concisely write requirement specifications
  • Translates conceptual user requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers/project team
  • Develops prototypes of interfaces and attributes based on findings
  • Analyses and verifies requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards
  • Identifies and establish es scope and parameters of requirements analysis in order to define impact, outcome criteria, and measure-taking actions
  • Works with stakeholders and project team to prioritize collected requirements
  • Creates process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to dev elopers and/or the project team
  • Develops and conduct s peer reviews to ensure that requirement specifications are correctly interpreted
  • Manages and track the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle; enforce and redefine as necessary
  • Communicate s changes, enhancements, and modifications – verbally or through written documentation project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are understood
  • Researches , reviews , and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing requirements-gathering processes and develop strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes
  • Assists in conducting research on software and hardware products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts
  • Establish es practices and procedures that work towards the continuous improvem ent of the requirements process
  • Provide s guidance and/or inst ruction to junior staff members

Required Qualifications

  • College diploma or university degree in software engineering, computer science, or business administratio n or equivalent work experience
  • 5 or more years in business analyst experience (Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development)
  • Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user-friendly language
  • 2 years direct experience in the creation of test scripts and the execution of testing such as Smoke, String, Unit, Load, System, QA, UAT, PIV, Regression or others
  • Strong knowledge of testing b est practices and methodologies
  • Experience with testin g web and desktop applications
  • Proven data analysis, data verification , and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent PC skills and technical fluency
  • Familiarity with software and database develo pment and network architecture
  • Experience with formal p roject management methodologies
  • Exemplary attention to detail

Desired /Preferred Qualificatio

  • Experience with core software applications, including MS CRM, Sharepoint, MS GP, SQL Server 2005 and above
  • Experience in overseeing the design, development, testing and implementation of software solutions, systems, or products
  • Experience importing data for use in report software, spread sheets, graphs, and flow charts
  • Experience creating project charters, process diagrams, functional specifications, report layouts, training materials, use cases, and system text scripts
  • Excellent writte n and oral communication skills
  • Excellent listening, present ation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both techn ical and user-friendly language
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to be self-mo tivating and work independently
  • Experience working in a team-orie nted, collaborative environment
