Business Analyst - Job Role & Responsibilities

We are looking for a Business Analyst within our Defined Contribution (DC) Business Development team. The DC Business Development team works to position and support AB’s investment services to large private and public workplace retirement plans (i.e., 401(k) plans, 457 plans) in the US. In this role, the candidate would assist the Managing Director of DC Partner and Product Strategy in product development, improving process efficiency, and expanding our connectivity with external partners to support our business growth.

As one of the largest managers of custom target-date funds and a pioneer in retirement income solutions for institutional DC plans, AB provides investment related services to employees of these public and private retirement plans. To support the delivery of these investment services, AB has developed a proprietary platform that allows delivery of these services at scale. This business analyst role will focus on broadening our product reach by expanding our connectivity with more recordkeepers, insurers, trust companies and other asset managers as well as enhancing our product capabilities and developing additional ways to distribute our services across various segments of the market.

This business analyst role sits at the crossroads of both business and technology, and offers a unique opportunity to be innovative in creating and delivering retirement solutions to the American worker.

Specific Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Participate in design sessions for product development and custom client solutions and help create and maintain process design documents.
  • Present and get agreement from clients and partners on process designs
  • Partner with Technology and Operations teams to build, test and launch new product capabilities.
  • Produce agenda and minutes for meetings with external partners and internal teams; proactively pushing to keep these engagements on point
  • Collaborate with other functional teams within the firm including: Investment Research, Marketing, Legal, Compliance, Client Service, and Sales.
  • Create and update positioning materials highlighting our platform capabilities
  • Coordinate progress and execution of legal agreements, including but not limited to Non-Disclosure Agreements and services agreements.
  • Responsible for running the monthly rates process, which involves reporting and using AB tools to establish the withdrawal rates for the coming month based upon the competitive bids submitted by all insurers on the platform; provide support for Guaranteed Insurer Fiduciary Service (GIFS) committee.
  • Support other periodic reporting processes for the group, including distributing to the team and storing in centralized repositories.
  • Analyze Lifetime Income Strategy (LIS) data and help with building out metrics reporting in a business intelligence tool
  • Analyzing how our operational and technology platform can be best used, leveraged and enhanced to meet the complex needs of our clients, as well as to implement new product development ideas
  • Analyzing how to enhance/improve reporting processes for fact sheets, quarterly reports, and partner deliverables

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, or related field
  • 2-3 years of business analyst and project management experience. Work experience in Insurance or Financial Services not required, but a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to thoughtfully assert ideas to a broad audience
  • Ideal candidate is a self-starter, delivery driven and intellectually curious
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Candidate should enjoy and do well working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Adept at synthesizing data to arrive at a compelling conclusion; ability to share a summary of the analysis and conclusion with others
  • Collaborative and open to other viewpoints
  • A desire to learn about the retirement industry and the competitive landscape

Required Skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, and Visio skills
  • Process Diagramming including box diagrams, process flows, swim lanes for cross-functional processes
  • Project Management skills including creating and managing project plans, Gantt charts, action items and issues lists, meeting agenda setting, etc
  • Beginner SQL with the ability to query datasets
  • Beginner Python not required, but a plus
  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools (ie, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, etc) not required, but a plus

Base Salary Range: $80,000-100,000

Actual base salaries may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, past performance, and other job-related factors.
