Business Analyst - Job Role & Responsibilities

CenterWell is seeking a skilled business analyst for its Accountable Care Organization (ACO) responsible for supporting the CenterWell ACO and its various Medicare risk programs contracted through the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Under general direction and supervision from ACO Director, Decision Support Analyst oversees reporting and data integrity, generating population health insights not limited to, utilization, membership, clinical quality, and financial performance. Analyst will work closely with CenterWell’s Data& Analytics team, and the CenterWell Finance& Accounting team to develop and maintain a suite of ACO specific reporting packages. This position requires an in-depth understanding of healthcare data including provider, clinical and member data. In this role, the Analyst is charged with overseeing data integrity for ACO risk programs, developing detailed analysis and reports, and recommending data-driven strategic insights and opportunities. This position requires a general understanding of the healthcare industry, including value-based care, health plans and insurance, and Medicare.

Essential Duties

  • Works with ACO Director, PCO leadership, and various shared services teams to identify, analyze, research, select, modify, or update ACO program data.
  • Fully understands the overall systems architecture of the department and considers this when analyzing and preparing information.
  • Applies statistical methods (e.g., confidence intervals, control limits, etc.) as appropriate when reporting information.
  • Utilizes peer comparisons and benchmarks to measure improvement.
  • Conducts and/or facilitates “drill down” and other ad hoc analyses of the data based on hypotheses, deductions, and inferences; identifies performance improvement opportunities.
  • Mines internal and external databases to ensure integrity of ACO program data.
  • Using various databases, writes reports for use by other staff and leaders for their use in generating data necessary to support ACO.
  • Coordinates the timely production and submission of reports per the specifications and timetables established by external bodies and internal leadership. Ensures that pertinent reports are distributed or are available to persons, committees, etc. that would likely benefit from the information.
  • Advises on design of meaningful, insightful, compelling data formats for the effective communication of information, customized to target audience(s).
  • Assists with or facilitates meetings, conference calls, web meetings, presentations, and other group communication methods.
Business Analyst - Job requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of technical experience in data analysis OR Master's degree and 3 or more years of experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Advanced experience working with big and complex data sets within large organizations
  • Experience analyzing data to solve a wide variety of business problems and create data visualizations that drive strategic direction
  • Proficiency in understanding Healthcare related data
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication to senior and executive leadership
  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • Advanced in SQL, SAS and other data systems
  • Experience with tools such as Tableau and Qlik for creating data visualizations
  • Expertise in data mining, forecasting, simulation, and/or predictive modeling
  • Experience creating analytics solutions for various healthcare sectors
