Advocacy
Housing Works fights for funding and legislation to ensure that all people living with HIV/AIDS have access to quality housing, healthcare, HIV prevention information and other life-sustaining services, as well as legal protection from stigma and discrimination. Housing Works is a grassroots organization committed to the use of non-violent civil disobedience in order to further our mission to end AIDS and homelessness.
Services
Since 1990, we have provided a comprehensive array of services to more than 20,000 homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS. Supportive services include but are not limited to housing, healthcare, meals and nutritional counseling, mental health and substance use treatment, job training, and legal assistance.
Entrepreneurial Businesses
Housing Works pioneered the concept of social enterprise–businesses whose profits fund the mission of a parent not-for-profit organization. This self-sustaining model provides employment opportunities to the community in addition to our fundraising efforts. Our businesses include Housing Works Thrift Shops and Housing Works Bookstore Cafe.
Job Description & Responsibilities
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Cannabis-focused Business Analyst to join our dynamic team in the rapidly growing cannabis industry. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting data-driven decision-making processes, analyzing market trends, and optimizing business operations within our growing cannabis business. This role involves gathering, interpreting, and presenting data to enhance strategic planning and overall business performance.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with management and finance teams to develop budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
- Develop, analyzes and shares sales data, trends, etc.
- Builds models and forecasts using HWCC data and aggregates data from diverse systems – shared data with stakeholders, including marketing team/consultants.
- Undertakes projects with partners, stakeholders, teams, etc.
- Ensure system upgrades, test/maintain integrations, backup systems, as needed.
- Train management, consultants, others on technology systems
- Work with Asset Protection Manager to use data to identify fraud, theft, etc.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to cannabis market trends, consumer behavior, and industry regulations.
- Generate insightful reports and dashboards to aid in strategic decision-making for various departments within the organization.
- Utilize business intelligence tools to create visual representations of key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Stay abreast of regulatory changes, competitor activities, and emerging trends to provide valuable insights.
- Evaluate financial performance, cost structures, and revenue streams to identify areas for improvement and growth.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze and optimize business processes, identifying areas for increased efficiency and cost reduction.
Other functions that may be required with this position include:
- Compliance Monitoring: Stay informed about changing cannabis regulations and ensure business operations align with legal requirements.
- Work with advocacy team to monitor regulations and legislation.
- Identify and assess potential risks within the cannabis business, providing recommendations for risk mitigation strategies.
- Communicate data findings and analysis to various stakeholders, including executives, department heads, and operational teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and provide analytical support.
Requirements
The role includesconducting quantitative and qualitative analyses including customer behavior, retail trends, buying & planning, etc. The Business Analyst will also lead special projects with strategic business partners, investors, and other stakeholders.
What we offer
We have three comprehensive healthcare plans to choose from based on your priorities and budget. Housing Works covers most of the plan; you pay a portion, based on your salary. Staff begins accruing PTO immediately for a total of up to 30 days earned in the first year. We offer employees an educational benefit. This money is available for tuition loan reimbursement, tuition costs, and text books.

This position is included in a bargaining unit of Housing Works’ New York City employees represented by a labor union known as the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union (“RWDSU”). Accordingly, the RWDSU has the exclusive right to bargain over the terms and conditions of employment related to this position and this position may become covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement (a “CBA”) between Housing Works and the RWDSU
Compensation Range: $59,000 - $75,000 annually commensurate with experience
