Business Analyst - Job Role & Responsibilities

Northwestern Mutual is seeking a hardworking and experienced Business Analyst with interests and experience in Project Management to help advance our work in Content Services. As a Business Analyst, you will dive deep and define business requirements for strategic and transformational efforts for our document content storage and information management platforms. As a Project Manager, you will help to move work forward through our processes. You will work on a cross-functional team of product managers, engineers, and subject matter experts in an agile methodology to deliver on our outcomes. A foundation of business and technical fundamentals should be complemented by soft-skills in building relationships, effectively eliciting and documenting requirements, critical problem-solving skills, and working toward shared goals.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Business Expertise: Partner with peer group, business partners and product management to learn business areas/domains, while continuing to learn and grow knowledge across the enterprise. Act as a liaison between business areas and the engineering team.

Current State, Future State and Gap Analysis: Document and assess current state in a few processes, or single business area / domain. Assist with task-based work items in more complex situations.

Gather Requirements: Responsible for detailed, fact-based requirement gathering, including all system, technical and intake requests. Anticipate potential issues within the initiative and gather engineering team to find solutions. Bias for quick action when the engineering team needs fast answers.

Author User Stories and/or Features: Author user stories and/or features independently with low to medium complexity while participating in some task-based work in higher complexity situations. Assist throughout the development process as needs arise. Knowledge of Gherkin language is a benefit.

Subject Matter Expert: Manage the onboarding of internal customers onto a SaaS Digital Asset Management System.

Test Plan Review: Assist with coordinating and reviewing test plans for smaller or non-complex efforts. Independently provide execution on testing as needed (UAT, checkouts, etc.) Write feature files for testing.

Project Management : Use project management principles to successfully complete and advance work. Participate in daily scrums, sprint planning, iteration planning, sprint reviews, retrospectives.

  • Ability to lean on strong communication skills to influence outcomes while approaching conflict with organizational savviness.
  • Domain expertise via previous internships or similar roles in the past.
  • Certifications demonstrating mastery of role specific competencies.
  • Familiarity of agile & scrum development environments.
  • Solves problems in straightforward situations; analyzes possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1-3 Years Prior Experience in industry or business.

Compensation Range

$59,150.00 - $109,850.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Please note that the salary range listed in the posting is the standard pay structure. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
