Business Analyst - Job Role & Responsibilities

The Enterprise Analytics Business Analyst reports to the Manager of Enterprise Analytics (EA) in Stanley Consultants’ Shared Services group. The Business Analyst will work closely with the manager of EA and other members of the team to gather, document, and translate business requests into actionable technical requirements to be worked on by the development team. The Business Analyst will become a subject matter expert (SME) in Stanley Consultants’ business acumen, processes, and data to act as a liaison between the business and the developers on the EA team. This position will play a pivotal role in expanding the group into a more mature reporting team through creating a more sustainable requirements gathering process as well as working closely with the EA Manager to maintain updates to tickets and ensure proper documentation. The ideal candidate will have a love for business analysis, a background in requirements gathering and user story creation, with a strong desire to learn the engineering consulting business Stanley operates and an advocate for a small but growing reporting team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Elicit, analyze, specify, and validate the business needs of stakeholders.
  • Develop business and/or technical requirements based on conversations with stakeholders that the development team can utilized.
  • Become a SME of Stanley’s processes and data to help facilitate requirements gathering and user story creation.
  • Work closely with the Manager of EA and business stakeholders to prioritize collected requirements.
  • Work closely with the Manager of EA to document processes for a team knowledge base.
  • Work closely with the Manager of EA to envision, create, and maintain a sustainable ticket/user story repository.
  • Document existing reporting for consolidation purposes as well as publishing on the company’s reporting intranet page.
  • Use the database to track down and validate data for requirements gathering purposes.
  • Create basic ad-hoc SQL queries to answer questions and/or provide quick answers during requirements gathering process.
  • Work with Manager of EA to create and operate a Steering Committee for reporting priorities.
  • Act as the spokesperson of the Enterprise Analytics Group.
  • Identify areas for automation by investigating existing reporting used by the business.
  • Other administrative tasks as deemed necessary by the Manager of EA.
Business Analyst - Job requirements

Required Skills, Education, And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of business administration, finance, information systems, or a related field.
  • Two plus years of related work experience.
  • Proven experience with business and technical requirement gathering and analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Prior experience creating user stories and/or tickets based off gathered requirements.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills a must.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Proficient with MS Office 365, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. Prior Excel VBA knowledge a plus.
  • Microsoft Project experience a plus.
  • Basic understanding of writing SQL code to extract data from a SQL Server database.
  • Basic understanding of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Basic understanding of the development life cycle and project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of Power BI or a related data visualization software (Tableau, Qlik, etc.).
  • Strong track record of applying analytics to improve business operations and drive quality improvement.
  • Desire to work on a small, but growing team as a business process and data SME.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and occasional ambiguous report requirements.
  • Familiarity with the engineering consulting industry a plus.

Salary Range: Base Compensation: $70,000 - $80,000
